About Love in Ink:
The Love in Ink team is composed of two dedicated, passionate, sleep-deprived writers. When we are not writing, we are thinking about writing – or reading what others have written. 🙂 Our favorite genres to read are fantasy and humor, but our own writing tends to be darker. In all cases, we appreciate a good story and solid characters more than anything else.
What inspires you to write?
Books! Books inspire us to write. Over our lives, we have fallen in love with numerous books and characters and worlds. Our imaginations and minds have forever been captured by literature; we cannot think of a better thing to do with our lives than contribute to it.
Tell us about your writing process.
Our writing processes differ quite a bit. Nicol (one half of the Love in Ink team :D) writes when she is in a specific mood; often, the stories produced during such times are chaotic and adjective-heavy, but lovely for all of that.
Kristin (that’s me!) writes with a specific timeline and structure in mind. That is not to say that she is not given to flights of fancy, but she tends to keep the overall plot of a book in mind.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely! We have whole conversations with our protagonists, drawn-out battles with our villains – all in the confines of our minds. 🙂
Truly, the surest way to creating a good, interesting character is to imagine them as a person. Their needs, their wants, their mannerism all matter; and once you have gotten that far, it is inevitable that you will start hearing their voice, whispering in your head as you write.
What advice would you give other writers?
Nicol: Write! Just write – don’t think about what you should write, or how to write, just do it! The more you write, the better you will get.
Kristin: Read as much and as varied of books as you can. Although you will develop your own unique style as you write more, it is always good to see how the pros do it. They are not popular and loved by millions worldwide for nothing!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Our first book, “A Year of Creative Writing Prompts,” is just that – a collection of writing ideas and tips. We published it in order to inspire writers to write; a good writing prompt goes a long way to curing writer’s block!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
We believe that publishing has a great, if unknown, future ahead. With technology changing so much, there is no knowing what book publishing will be like in the future. However, readers have only grown in number – as have authors – so that future should be nothing but bright.
