About Lloyd Vancil:
I am a Vietnam veteran and world traveler. I have been married to the love of my life for over forty years and we have three wonderful children. A large red parrot, named Scarlett often accompanies me and helps keep me in line.
What inspires you to write?
I have written all of my life. I write to get the stories I tell myself out of my head.
Tell us about your writing process.
Inspiration, perspiration, frustration, relief. I try to write a few words every morning before I go to work. Sometimes I write at night as well.
I outline, and plan and write without the outline. My wife has a motto.
“DSTSSJWID Don’t sweat the small stuff, just write it down.”
I use Scrivener from http://www.literatureandlatte.com on a mac.
I tend to create characters on the fly.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
YES. I’ve said that the main reason for writing is to get them out of my head.
Sometimes, it’s like they are telling me the story. When I write in the first person I sometimes fell like I’m watching them write.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write.
