About Lenita Sheridan:
Lenita Sheridan was inspired by the forest she played in as she grew up in the beautiful Goldstream Valley outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. At age eleven she made two major decisions: to become a Christian and to become a writer. She wanted to be like her grandfather, Max Sheridan, who published in science fiction and worked with Ray Bradbury
As she became an adult she began reading and writing fantasy. She entered graduate school at the University of Washington with her book, master's thesis already started. Lenita Sheridan graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.
She now lives on Whidbey Island where she writes and substitute teaches. Lenita Sheridan loves to walk her dog, a Japanese Spitz named Haley.
What inspires you to write?
I am inspired by nature. I write my experiences in my journal. Many of the made up flora and fauna in my books comes from this.
Tell us about your writing process.
I've tried outlining and I've tried writing without an outline. Both have worked for me. I don't create character sketches, but I like to flesh out my characters so they are real.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to them. They tell me what they would like, what their dreams are.
What advice would you give other writers?
I would tell them to never give up. Keep writing. Don't let anything get in the way of it, and keep promoting as well
How did you decide how to publish your books?
When I realized the market was open to self-publishing I made the decision and published the book. I would advise new authors to explore all the self-publishing companies, their pricing, distribution, author services, before making a decision.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think book publishing is really open to self-publishing now. Traditional publishing will soon become a thing of the past
What genres do you write?: fantasy, science fiction, memoir
What formats are your books in?: eBook, Print, Both eBook and Print
