Author Bio:
L. D. K. Johnson is an island girl, brought up in one of the most beautiful locations in the world…in her opinion. She currently spends late nights honing her writing skills huddled in the dark with her tablet, while the melodic sounds of her husband’s snores cheers her on. Her favorite past times are attending sidewalk art festivals, watching movies, eating chocolate, reading erotic romances and writing about book ideas that come to her mind at 2:00 a.m. Although she loves to create characters she hopes others will enjoy, her first loves will always be her husband, Philip, their daughters, Laura and Alissa, and their adorable Chihuahua, Rosey (aka…Beast). Unknown to many of her friends and family, she has been writing short stories since the age of 11 and has finally…finally…worked up the courage to introduce them to the world. Enjoy!
What inspires you to write?
I come from a family of writers. My uncle is a journalist and one of my cousins writes poetry. Since elementary school, I’ve always dreamed of becoming a published author, but was too shy to tell anyone except my parents.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process is simple. I sit in front of my laptop with a general storyline…then let my overly-active imagination loose. It’s pretty funny what I end up with.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
As I see it, my characters are extensions of me. When I write, I usually just ask myself, “What would I do in this situation?” or “What would I say if I were this character?” Thank goodness I don’t answer back out loud. I think that might make my husband freak-out.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t give-up, no matter what obstacles block your path. But most importantly, believe in yourself and your ability to tell a story and things will fall into place.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Deciding to self-publish my books was quite a struggle for me. I had gotten many rejection letters from mainstream publishing houses and was tired of sending out inquiry letters, when my friend mentioned doing it myself. After almost a year of debating, I finally decided to jump-in with both feet. The rest, as they say, is history.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The future of book publishing is a wide open industry with many opportunities for the everyday Joe. With social media and companies that offer quality publishing tools and free advertising, there are no limits to how far an author like myself can go.
What genres do you write?
Contemporary Romance, Paranormal Romance, Interracial/Multicultural Romance, Military Romance
What formats are your books in?
Both eBook and Print
