What inspires you to write?
New places, new people, and music inspires me to write.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write by the seat of my pants. I just write, and I go hard until a book is complete. If I think of something I've missed, I go back and insert it where I want it. I have tried working off an outline, but it usually winds up collecting dust or in the trash. LOL I do not use a dedicated work space either. I am all over the house and occasionally outside. I tried using an office space, but felt constrained. I use MS Word for my manuscripts. I'm comfortable with the software after years of working in the hospital. Sometimes, I'll look for images of my characters as I write just for fun, but usually not until the manuscript is complete. I don't want some gorgeous man's image influencing my vision. LOL
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
For the most part, I control my characters. Occasionally they take me in another direction and it's surprising. I like it though. I want my characters to come alive in my mind. Some might call this a "split personality," on my part! LOL
What advice would you give other writers?
Don't take anything personal! Some will love your book and some won't. Just write your best book and be proud.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After I finished my first book, I knew I needed help. I knew nothing about the publishing world and my reputation was on the line, so I did my homework. I searched for a publisher with a great reputation for mentoring their authors and that's who I went with. The rest is history and I'm very happy! I do self-publish as well now, so I am a hybrid author. It's amazing what you can learn in one year!
If you're a new author, take your time. Use a professional, experienced editor and cover designer. There is no "right" way to publish anymore. Plan on spending more time marketing than writing. Above all, write because you love to write!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I look for more traditional publishers to require a strong social media following to be established before they will consider anyone for contract. The market is flooded with great books, both from traditional and independent authors.
What genres do you write?: Erotic, Paranormal, Historical, Fantasy, Contemporary
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
