About Koraly Dimitriadis:
I am passionate about women and telling stories for women. I want to empower women. I feel like women should be able to say and do what they want, freely, and be unashamed.
What inspires you to write?
I was married at 22 and had a very repressive upbringing where I was not encouraged to explore who I was. Years later, I have embraced who I am and am living my dream of being an artist. I want to inspire other women.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write a lot. Too much. I have lots of ideas. Apart from writing books I have a theatre show and I have created short films of my poems. I love performing and acting out my own writing. I want to see all of my writing visually as well, ie in film or on the stage. I want to embody my words.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep writing and don’t give up. Believe in yourself. If you are not your number one fan you may as well give up. Write live nobody is ever going to read your work. Be honest.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Initially I created a zine, Love and F**k Poems, just to have something to sell at my shows when I performed. I put a couple of copies in a bookshop and they sold. I republished it as a book and now it is a bestseller for poetry in Australia. Now I want to share my work outside of Australia. I was lucky to have a Greek publisher publish the book in 2014 to rave reviews and debate.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s all going to be digital and self.
