About Ken Horlor:
Ken Horlor lives in Christchurch, New Zealand with his wife and children. He’s a former teacher and basketball coach who later started a successful equipment sales and rental business. He’s an avid reader and started writing to entertain his children.
What inspires you to write?
Other authors and their skill is what inspires me. I try not to copy their style but to at least be good and tell my own stories. I don’t know if I manage that but at least I try to entertain
Tell us about your writing process.
I write a few words a day, on a laptop in Word format. I don’t want to write any more than a thousand words a day as I find I tend to ramble and go off topic when I write too long in one sitting. I try to say it, not spray it. Then I’ll edit for mistakes at some stage. When the book is written I’ll rewrite after a few weeks rest. I find it’s better to step back from the writing for a spell before going over things again.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
In my head the characters have their own life and I’m observing what is going on. I’m eavesdropping.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write and then write some more. Try to be good and to write stories that people want to read.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I wanted my writing to be accessible to as wide an audience as possible, so Kindle and CreateSpace was it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It has a strong future, there is nothing like the physical copy in your hand, especially reference and textbooks and the like. Fiction will increasingly be consumed online I feel.
What genres do you write?: Young Adult, General Fiction, Historical
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
