About Keisha Baker:
I am a new author and I am very excited to start sharing my work with the world!
I always loved to read and just recently made the leap from reader to author. I grew up in Compton, CA (Los Angeles), and currently reside in the Los Angeles area. I feel like I add a fresh interesting perspective to my storytelling due to my background, and at the time I am focused on fiction/romance/chick lit writing. My goal is to work my way up to my favorite genre historical fiction.
I hope you find my stories interesting as I am so excited to produce them!
What inspires you to write?
I have always loved reading starting as a young child. Now as an adult I am trying my hand at the other side of the book so to speak. I am finding I am really enjoying the writing process as much as I love diving into a great read.
Tell us about your writing process.
I just let it flow. My publisher does place deadlines on me (which I never seem to make) but I feel like time spent on a better story creates a better product for the reader even if I don’t necessarily meet the deadline.
I normally start off with a broad idea of what I want to write about but my ideas come when I actually have the word document open on my computer. I generally write middle parts first, then the beginning, then ending.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t talk to my characters but I do have a very vivid imagination as to what it would be like to be the characters.
What advice would you give other writers?
My advice would be to just go for it. I spent a lot of time wasted wondering if I could or if I should when I should have been using that time just writing. I also say always constantly read.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I used an independent publishing company. I felt that I did not know enough about the industry to do it myself and the publisher I used (Pleasure Principle Publications) really held my hand and was great in getting me started. They handled everything from editing, to marketing to cover design.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think book publishing is a lot better in that people can publish themselves and don’t need the “gatekeepers” of the publishing industry to be successful
