What inspires you to write?
Everything Texas. I drive out of my subdivision and there are fields of wild flowers and cattle.
Tell us about your writing process.
I used to be a complete panster when i started but I was only working on one book at a time. Now I usually have three projects going and edits. I use one note software that comes with word to make notes and I’ve found it a tremendous help.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
There are times I sit down to write planning to go in one direction and suddenly I’m off on a different tangent. I also try to put myself in the character’s shoes- how would they be feeling about each situation.
What advice would you give other writers?
Build a platform immediately- website, facebook, twitter for starters. It takes much longer than you think to gain fans and make friends.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My first book was published three years ago and then it was all about getting a publisher. Now in just three years things have changed so much. I have learned so much by using a publisher, the editors I have worked with have really taught me a great deal.
If you do selfpublish my advice is to make sure your books are well edited
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s so hard to know. Things change daily, how we market and sell books- what works for one book doesn’t work for another. Make sure you research any possible publisher- never pay to be published and if you have questions contact an Author who publishes with that publisher. I got lucky with both my publishers but there are people who make promises they don’t keep
