About Katherine Magnoli:
Born with a birth defect that weakened her spine but not her mind, Katherine has spent 30 years viewing the world from her wheelchair. This unique perspective on people, places, and things has given her an insight into people that makes her the perfect author to help children understand the challenges facing those who are viewed to be “different” or “weird’.
Originally from the suburbs of New York, Katherine currently lives in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. Though she is wheelchair bound Katherine is a student working hard to obtain her bachelor’s degree at the Miami Dade School of Education as an Exceptional Student Education major. She hopes to be an Exceptional Student teacher in the near future so she can use her super hero powers to impact the lives of as many children as possible.
In her spare time Katherine enjoys swimming and going to her tennis lesson. She hopes to be an example, that when faced with a physical challenge you should never let that stop you from living out your dreams and goals.
What inspires you to write?
I want to help children understand disability while being entertained. I also want to show that no matter your challenge you can accomplish anything you put your mind to.
Tell us about your writing process.
Well for me usually I get inspired by something I see and/or hear through out the day. Then I write the title and somehow I am able to picture the story clearly from there. Lastly as I am writing I read everything and make sure it sounds appropriate for each character and if not I make necessary changes.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes I do both.
What advice would you give other writers?
Never let anyone stop you for accomplishing you dreams of being an author, no matter how much they tell you it is impossible.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I have a relative who owns an educational toy business and she became interested in producing my stories. I would advise other authors to not take this route because working with family is complicate, therefore I would send your manuscript to as many publishing companies as you possibly can and then just hope for the best. Also you should really get a literary agent because it can be very helpful to promote your book.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I have hopes that people will grow tired of technology and realize that the old way of living is much more heartfelt and thus go back to doing things the original way and that includes reading and buying books.
What genres do you write?: I have written children’s books, and my autobiography.
What formats are your books in?: Print
