About Karen M. Bobos:
Bobos began writing poetry and stories at the early age of ten. She is a life-long Chicagoan who now raises her family in the downtown area. During the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, Chicago also became a city of unrest. Trying to keep her three young daughters in a world of magic during such scary times, the Bobos Babes Adventures were born. Her goal was to create a world of Harmony for her family and hopefully for others to escape, even if only for a moment. The first book of the series, The Case of the Giggles, was published in December 2020. The Missing Egg launched in March 2021. The The Lion's Secret was published in June 2021, a tribute to her mother and late father's incredible love story. The Lovey that Came to Life and The Bobcat Birthday party will be releasing in the upcoming months.
What inspires you to write?
My children – My daughter, Scarlett, is the most inspirational person that I know. She tells me to never give up on my dreams. She even started a YouTube show called Sunshine with Scarlett. This was my lifelong dream that I put on hold. My books are based on my three daughters.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Margaret Mitchell, Judy Blume, Agatha Christie, Shakespeare, CS Lewis, Sandra Boyton and Nancy Tilman for my kids
Tell us about your writing process.
I just write. I'm a busy, working mom of three girls under eight whose husband is gone during the week for work. I write on my phone, on my laptop, on the treadmill, during gymnastics practices – I fit it in wherever I can. It's what I do to make me feel like me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
No, but all of my characters are inspired by real people.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just write and write often. The more I write, the more creative I am. Each story gets better and better. Writing often helps the juices flow …
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Honestly, I didn't want to lose any of my creative rights because my stories are based on my children. I have also owned a business for 15 years and knew that being a self-published author was and is the best choice for me. I write because I love it and hope that you love to read my work. I'm more inspired by good reviews than book sales.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Oh gosh, I don't know. I feel like I am learning more and more every day. You just keep throwing darts out there and hopefully someone sees it who can change your world.
What genres do you write?: children's Halloween books, children's fairytale books, kids princess and fairies books, children's magical stories
