About Josiah Akhtab:
I write. I workout. I make Youtube videos. I play Basketball. I meditate. I journal. I read either Fantasy or Philosophy. Oh, and did I forget to mention that I have characters in my head that demand to come out? That daydreaming about a story is more entertaining than writing it? But hey, if I don't write the story who will, right? So yeah, give the stories a read and let me know what you think. . .brutal honesty welcomed!
What inspires you to write?
Mainly great TV shows or animes. Sometimes a good book will inspire me to come up with a character and a story to tell.
What originally inspired me was Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan with intricate world-building and mesmerizing storytelling.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
Stephen King would be number one followed by Pierce Brown, Leigh Bardugo, V.E. Schwab, and Tom Elliot
Tell us about your writing process.
I'm more of a on-the-fly writer (or pantster as some authors call it). I prefer to let the ideas come as they will and I will flesh them out in the realm of imagination until they have enough substance to come to life on the blank canvas known as paper.
I don't use any outlines or things to that nature, just good ole imagination work with a side of daydreaming.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I sometimes act out my characters but mostly they come as voices in my head and pivotal scenes that capture the essence of the impending story.
If a certain scene plays out a number of times, or a character keeps recurring, then I know it is someone worth writing about.
What advice would you give other writers?
I would tell other authors to market yourself as well as your books. People want to know who you are as well and are more invested when they know who is responsible for creating the characters they come to love.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I've tried both traditional and self publishing. Traditional often requires too much money just to print the book where self-publishing makes that free and allows you more creative control when it comes to designing your book and marketing it as well.
I would advise authors to self-publish and learn about the industry itself. Self-publishing is a great way for you to take your life into your own hands and determine your own value as a writer.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think more authors will go the self-publishing route as Amazon has made it possible for authors to make their way without having to wait on agencies to accept their work.
Talent is also in abundance amongst the common folk so I think there will be an explosion of independent authors with big names.
What genres do you write?: Fantasy & Science Fiction
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print, Audiobook
