What inspires you to write?
While there are many things that inspire me to write there is one experience that truly illustrates the main reason. One day, I was rollerblading down at the beach. I stopped at my regular resting point to enjoy the view. It was sunset and I was admiring the beautiful colors. Suddenly, I realized while I was watching there was literally a new mural being “painted” in the sky as the sun continued to set. God was actually creating a new masterpiece in the sky every second. It made me realize God was teaching us that we too can create something new every single moment of the day. This revelation was and still is beyond spiritual and inspiring to me.
Tell us about your writing process.
Unlike many writers, I don’t necessarily have a writing process. I write when I feel like writing. Because I love writing so much, I only write when I’m completely in the mood to write. I believe that by doing so, my readers will sense the love in my writing and will enjoy my books as thoroughly as possible.
What advice would you give other writers?
I was once told that the way to become a better writer is to write something new every day. This allows a writer to become very comfortable with his or her writer’s voice. Free flow writing like keeping a diary is an excellent and effective way to accomplish this.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My dream has always been to publish a novel series. Publishing an inspirational poetry and quotes series was truly unexpected. I used to publish my writing on various writing sites I found online to receive much needed peer and public feedback. One day, I was contacted by a publisher who had found my writing online and asked to publish my work. That was why the “Dreams of the Heart” vol. I & II and “Keep Joy in a Pocket & Love in a Heart Locket” series was created.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe the internet has opened up doors for new, emerging, and seasoned authors that have never been opened before. Today, authors have more access to publishing, marketing, and other resource tools than authors of the past. I believe that the future of book publishing is very bright, increasing, and more accessible to writers regardless of genre or social status.
