About Joe Mansour:
Though I have always written (rather clichéd I know), I am now actively pursuing the goal of becoming an author rather than just daydreaming about it. “Dark God: Ascending” is the first book (of a proposed trilogy) that I feel ready for publication.
What inspires you to write?
Intriguing scenarios, ‘what if’s’. The ability to shape a world rather than be shaped by it.
Tell us about your writing process.
Sit down to write, look out the window, browse the internet, put the washing on, sit back down, write a sentence, browse the internet, delete the sentence, look out the window. Curse myself for procrastinating, manage to write a chapter, sit back satisfied, hang the washing out, sit back down, delete half the chapter.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I generally tell them what to do. I do consider if the character would say something (dependent on how they have behaved previously).
What advice would you give other writers?
Have a computer not connected to the internet.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I felt that the book was finished and wanted others to read it, the quickest way was self publication but I am also submitting it to literary agents / publishers.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think self publishing has democratised the market, but it has also made it difficult to succeed. I think that the established model is still the best way to have your material read.
What genres do you write?: thriller, crime, sci fi
What formats are your books in?: eBook
