About Jessica Marie Baumgartner:
Jessica’s word addiction has led her to become a member of the St. Louis Writers Guild. Unable to cure her of this ailment she has two upcoming releases slated for early 2016 along with her recently released science fiction Embracing Entropy novella, the 1st in a trilogy titled By the Stars. She also has an erotic paranormal romance novelette, Tale of Two Bookends, and a children’s book, My Family Is Different. Her stories have been featured in numerous publications such as Everyday fiction, The Lorelei Signal, Fiction on the Web, The Horror Zine and many others. Genre hopping seems to be her thing, maybe tomorrow she’ll write a book on quantum physics.
What inspires you to write?
People and experiences. Writing is all about the human connection and the more people I meet, the more stories I seem to have to tell.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a good old fashioned longhander. Pen and paper are my best friends, I take them with me anywhere and everywhere. I don’t have a set writing schedule or a fancy writing desk. Some days I write in a closet, others from a tree. If I have any kind of outline, it’s usually random scribblings that the story veers away from. haha
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I’m not sure that I do either. I usually become the characters to tell their story. I’ve done some acting in the past and that seems to help me find the voice.
What advice would you give other writers?
Make friends with other writers. Share work, trade work, do favors for others. They will help you when you least expect it. Not always, but more often than not.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I kind of fell into publishing. I never set out to be a writer. I subbed my first book, a children’s book titled “My Family Is Different” on a whim only because I felt it was a helpful story. It got picked up fast and when we hit #18 on amazon I realized that I might actually have a shot at being a real author.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
There will always be people who love to share stories. Readers and writers don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, if anything this is the best time for both. There’s a great selection right now.
