About Jessa Chase:
Jessa lives in Washington State with her one tiny human and her two rambunctious rescue pups. She works in healthcare and after a crazy busy day in clinic loves to sit on her couch and write about epic romances.
What inspires you to write?
I am inspired to write by the stream of ideas that constantly flow through my brain. If I didn’t write them down I would probably lose my mind! Also, I love to see the finished project and say “hey, I made that”.
Tell us about your writing process.
My writing process starts with an outline. I used to write by the seat of my pants but I never finished a project and would get extremely frustrated with myself.
Once I started using an outline, I fell in love and never turned back. My outlines have gotten more in-depth as I’ve started writing longer stories. At the moment a 3 page outline is just about perfect.
I bring a notebook and pen to work and write on my lunch break, then type it up at home after kiddo goes to bed. I have been considering purchasing a small netbook to make the process faster, something I could carry with me to work.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters are almost always pretty chatty! I have had characters influence their own stories pretty heavily in the past. What I had planned for them was scrapped in favor of what they came up with, and I’ve always been pleased with the results.
What advice would you give other writers?
Get your butt in the chair and write! Really, nothing else can replace that advice. Write, write, write and when you get discouraged…write some more.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I enjoyed writing for myself but I wanted to see if others would enjoy my writing as well. I didn’t want to wait years for a trad pub to refuse me, I figured going the self-pub way was more my style.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future is bright. Everyone will always crave new stories, even as the market ebbs and flows.
