About Jenn Nixon:
Jenn’s love of writing started the year she received her first diary and Nancy Drew novel. Throughout her teenage years, she kept a diary of her personal thoughts and feelings but graduated from Nancy Drew to other mystery suspense novels.
Jenn often adds a thriller and suspense element to anything she writes be it Romance, Science Fiction, or Fantasy. When not writing, she spends her time reading, observing pop culture, playing with her two dogs, and working on various charitable projects in her home state of New Jersey.
What inspires you to write?
I’ve always had an active imagination. Writing came naturally to me as a child. As I grew older, I realized that writing was more than just putting words onto a piece of paper and it required skill and imagination. I honed my craft and continue to put my wacky ideas down whenever I can.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am what the writing world calls a panters. I have my characters, my plot, and a general idea where I’d like the story to go and just start writing. Eventually, the characters take control of their story and I just follow along.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t talk to my character, but they tell me where they story goes after a while. I’m not sure why it happens, it’s weird, but forcing characters into situations that you’ve set up for them doesn’t always work.
What advice would you give other writers?
Read, read, read, and learn the craft. There are many rule in the fiction writing world and some of them you have to know in order to create a cohesive and intriguing novel.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My first book came out through a vanity press, long before self-publishing was available. It happened to be this story I was writing to entertain friends at work. They enjoyed it and I loved the process so much that I never looked back and kept on writing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Right now is a very exciting time in publishing with small publishers and self publishers. It’s harder to get recognized these days, but with a great book, some perseverance and a lot of hard work, it’s possible to find an audience for just about anything your mind can think of to write.
