What inspires you to write?
I like to write, simply to create a story. Something that has never existed before is now brought to life. Characters are created and killed, Heroes and Villains that only existed in my mind are now released free to the world.
When those Heroes and Villains provide enjoyment to others, and the stories provide enjoyment to others then that is the cream on the cake.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am a bit of both. I write a plan just with pen and paper more to get the order of how things should flow. Then i will write and sometimes i write more than what was intended or new ideas just present themselves. So i often have to adjust my plan. I think its important to at least have a plan your working towards.
With My characters a lot of my Character’s are created by little things real people do. So one of my characters may have 5 habits that 5 people i know do. I always try and base my characters features on actual features i have seen.
My biggest problem is my spelling and grammar, due to being in hospital as a child i missed a lot. When your sitting in a hospital bed thinking about dying learning where to put the full stop is the least of your concern. However if you love something then do it and try and fix any weakness you may have.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I pretend I am them. If i am having trouble with a crucial part of a chapter i will go though the discussion out aloud to get it how i want it.
What advice would you give other writers?
I regret not doing it sooner i love it. Unfortunately most writers would be the same they would have had too work to make ends meet and pay bills. The $16 in royalties doesn’t get you much. But if you love it and your good at it the money will come if the money is the reason your doing it then its the wrong reason.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Based on my feedback which isn’t a lot i would advise authors to try and get it published by a publisher if possible. I only tried a few and then thought i will publish it myself. The reason i self published was publishers had a million different requirements and many of them were not accepting MS at the time. So i gave up and published it myself i should have been more persistent.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The problem with Self Publishing is there is no filter between the good and the terrible. So what will happen is that there will be so much product out there the good will still get lost. The publishers ability to get it into bookstores will still have huge value, however the more the Digital platform increases the less impact bookstores will have.
