About J.L.Clayton:
I lives in a small town and I work at the local post office, delivering mail every day with a smile on my face. My husband, Robert, and I have a 15-year-old daughter, Shyla. I was inspired by the Twilight series to write A Spark of Magic: Chosen Saga Book One, my very first novel; now I’ve published my second book in the Saga: A Blaze of Magic!
What inspires you to write?
I never read a book until I watched Twilight. Then I had to know how it would end, I found out that the movie was a book. I was a little apprehensive, what with me never really liking to read in the first place, however; I fell in love with reading and deep down I just knew I could write. So here we are, two book’s under my belt and working on the 3rd one! 🙂 Woohoo!
Tell us about your writing process.
I do one of three things before I set down to write.
(1) I will ether crack my knuckles.
(2) I will listen to classic music.
(3) Or I will dance with my daughter.
All of these things seem to clear my head and get me going.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I will read out loud what I am putting into words, that seems to help me. I also listen to what my head is telling me. I guess, it is like listing to the voices in side your head. 🙂
What advice would you give other writers?
Just to believe in yourself. With work, time and plenty of patience anything is possible. Take me: I never read until the movie Twilight, now I can’t go without reading and writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I just felt like self publishing took all the hassle out of trying to get an agent, and then trying to get published.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The future of book publishing is falling into self publishing. Soon everyone that writes will be self publishing their eBooks! 😉
