About Holly S Roberts:
Shhh, I'm an ex-police detective who writes steamy romance because it's a great way to escape the daily grind with hot guys and kick-ass women filling up the pages. My heroes are really bad but love changes them and opens their hearts to someone special.
When not writing you'll find me hiking mountains with my husband and Rottweiler Dizzy. I'm known to throw out the f-bomb too often and love listening to dirty blues and hard rock. I have a thirst for adventure and a trip into outer space is a very real possibility or so I dream and dream and dream.
What inspires you to write?
Everything around me. I love placing myself in a scene and holding something as simple as a cup of coffee when I'm including a cup of coffee in the story. Of course drinking it is a side benefit.
Tell us about your writing process.
I love waking up before the sun and starting my day. My goal is a thousand words before the sun comes up. I write in one of two reclining chairs, one has a beautiful view of the mountains and one has a view of our downstairs bar with my Harley Davidson and beer signs. I write where the mood takes me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen and talk to them throughout the process and they tend to do a lot of yelling at me when I don't get them just perfect. If they're laughing I want to laugh. If they're crying tears had better be dripping onto my keyboard. I love my characters even the really evil ones.
What advice would you give other writers?
Everyone says "just write" for a reason. It's not easy but that's what makes it so rewarding.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I queried 200 agents with my first work and received little feedback so decided to self-publish. That opened doors and now I have the best agent in the world and he's sold my movie rights which is awesome. Publishing changes constantly and I keep up with the times and change with it. You could say I'm flexible.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Publishing will evolve more and I predict a new bigger player will knock Amazon down a notch and take over the book industry. Even though I'm a prime junky, I'm waiting…
