What inspires you to write?
Well, I never thought of myself as a writer but over the course of my entrepreneurship journey, I've made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot from them. The inspiration for my books came from those mistakes. My goal for writing Business Lessons was to document some of the mistakes I did and prevent others from making them. There's also a compilation of other entrepreneurs who shared their top mistakes as well. Overall, there a ton of great advice for readers and new entrepreneurs.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I have a bunch of great authors that I like. Starting with Gary Vaynerchuk, Malcolm Gladwell, to Robert T. Kiyosaki to name a few.
Tell us about your writing process.
My process is first, create an outline on MS word. A completed outline with chapter titles, paragraphs. Once I have my outline completed, I am ready to GO. I do not spend a lot of time sitting down to write. I write 70 percent of my book using my phone and voice to text on MS word. Every day before I go to bed, I will write a few chapters just by speaking into my phone and the voice to text on MS word will write it. The next day, I will edit, format, and change what needs to change. The process saves me a lot of time and I can do even when I am out or sitting in my car.
What advice would you give other writers?
My advice for new authors is to focus on writing the book first. Begin promoting the book while you're still writing it. Even before it is completed, you need to start sharing it with potential readers. Also, please understand marketing is going to be harder than you think. It won't be easy to get reviews. My advice is to join as many Facebook Groups for authors in your niche as possible and start making like-minded friends. You will need their support once the book is published.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Self-publishing was always my first and only option. I just don't see the real value to get a publisher right now. Also, I wanted to learn the process and figure it all out myself. I am glad I did because now, I am helping others to publish their own books. I have created video courses that teach new authors the process of self-publishing. This would have not been possible If I had someone else do all the work.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I love what I am seeing. More people are becoming authors (even though that means more competition for me 🙂 but it's great to see. The technology is getting better and anyone can do it themselves with little to no cost. However, I do hope authors really focus on adding value to readers. It's a very exciting time, the future looks very bright for self-publishing authors.
