About Grace Hudson:
Grace Hudson is an author from Melbourne, Australia.
She writes dystopian, paranormal, urban fantasy and probably some other genres she hasn’t explored yet.
FERTS, her first novel, was released in June 2015.
What inspires you to write?
I get inspired to write from all kinds of sources. A news story, a song, something I see on the street, a comment, a look from someone. The list is endless.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am a pantser. I start with a blank page/screen. I just write and the story will go where it needs to go. After I have begun the process, I draw up maps, lists and timelines so I don’t need to keep it all in my head.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I listen to my characters. They are quite bossy and don’t like to be told what to do. I let them express themselves as the story progresses and I don’t try and push them to act in a certain way. A character will let me know in no uncertain terms if I am misrepresenting them and will push for me to correct it. Sounds odd, but that’s how it goes.
What advice would you give other writers?
The obvious answer is to keep writing. I would also suggest joining some Facebook groups, getting to know other writers. I have been amazed and encouraged by the incredible support I have received from fellow authors.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish to try it out using my own marketing plan. It works well with my megalomaniacal nature! Just kidding. Not really.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think people still want physical copies of books. People also want to load up on eBooks for convenience and to save bookshelf space. It’s a win-win, in my opinion.
