About Gethyn Jones:
Gethyn Jones
Gethyn spent 30 years as a producer, presenter and journalist – primarily in BBC local radio and latterly in commercial radio and community TV. He's an accomplished songwriter and producer, having been part of JUGG Music which provided music for a variety of BBC and ITV programmes, back in the mists of time.
He is also an experienced web designer and has run his own company since 2005.
Revitalised and inspired by new audio technology – after a long period of dormant creativity, in 2018 Gethyn hatched a plan to combine his diverse skills. He started work on the trilogy, Fatal Equation – a music album, TV drama proposal and novel.
The novel has arrived first, along with a selection of the featured songs, performed by COOLSTAR.
What inspires you to write?
Magic. The process is a wonderful mystery and I love it. Where do ideas comes from whatever you happen to do doing whether it's writing a book or designing a house to build? They're certainly not sitting on a shelf waiting for you to pick them up and use them, that's for sure.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
TThey're legion … JRR Tolkien, Sarah Winsome, John Grisham, Tony Parsons, Lee Child, Stephen King … everything.
Tell us about your writing process.
More magic. I'm not kidding either. I just sit in front of a screen and keyboard – wishing I'd finished that touch-typing course … and I just let go. Somehow I seem to channel words on to the document – complete with a zillion typos – and before I know it I have a page of words that I can massage into some sort of shape. I'll come back to it many times in the future and maybe things will change maybe they won't. it's terribly clumsy but it seems natural and honest to me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I certainly do. But I need to be away from people – they'd be worried about my sanity if they heard. I just have my dog, Dibble for company. He's a dachshund who never leaves me alone!
What advice would you give other writers?
Don't do too much research about HOW to write? Let it happen naturally … certainly the first time you write. Make all those time wasting mistakes and formatting errors, ignore character arcs and countless other must-haves you'll later find via Google. Just let your writing flow – your way. Mistakes and all – because you'll learn from them. Why would anyone want to write by numbers – from book templates? It's almost A.I.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After completing my first book I prepared to send off the first 10,000 words to assorted Book Agents. I trawled the net to find people who might match what I'd written but reading their bios I soon realised that many of them aren't actually inhabiting the world I live in and are blinded by wokedom and an obsession with box-ticking. I therefore realised that I would need to self-publish.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It needs to reset itself and stop the censorship.
What genres do you write?: Romance
What formats are your books in?: eBook, Print, Both eBook and Print
