Faye lives in North Queensland with her husband and 5 of their 9 children.
What inspires you to write?
I grew up in rural North Queensland, Australia surrounded by sugarcane farms, and stories of the immigrants that had moved there to start a new life before, during, or after the world wars.
It was these stories of hardship and love that fed my imagination and from that I began to write.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I take inspiration from so many places, from romance books written by Amanda Quick, to crime novels written by Agatha Christie.
Tell us about your writing process.
I'm not sure it's unusual but I write lots of notes and quotes, even little sections of dialogue. They don't belong to any story as such, but I keep them and look back on them at least once a year until a story forms from them.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Talk – yes. Yell – often. Argue – all the time.
What advice would you give other writers?
Be prepared to fail and get up and keep trying.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I've been with several publishers over the last 10 years and they've all shut their doors for whatever reason. One of those was a nightmare and I found myself trapped in a contract I just couldn't get out of. After the last one shut their door, I decided I'd try my hand at indie publishing through my family run publishing house.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It's always been uncertain but with so much AI stuff being used, and pirate sites taking over, I fear that authors will become a dying breed.
