About Evie Harper:
Evie is an Australian author whose passion for reading lead her into writing. Evie spends her days writing heartbreaking, suspense filled love stories with happily ever afters. Evie’s characters are strong alphas with even stronger heroines who bring sexy sass to the relationship.
What inspires you to write?
My life experience, music, books I’ve read and TV shows I’ve watched.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a pantser trying to be a plotter. A story I’m writing at the moment was plotted out, but as I’ve been writing the story I’ve veered further and further from the story so perhaps I’ll always be a pantser.
I have always used post it notes for ideas and characters names when they come to my head. I use OneNote to write notes and Pinterest to create my worlds with pictures.
I usually start my story with the scene that has the biggest conflict and the ending is usually next then I go to the beginning and write the story. I’m not sure why that has happened with my stories, but somehow it works for me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I don’t talk to my characters or listen to them. In my mind it’s more like a movie, I’m shown the story and I write it out. I use my own life experiences for the emotions. I try to visualise myself going through the event and how that would make me feel and how I would react.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write, write, write. Don’t give up, being a writer is the hardest job I’ve ever had and also the most satisfying. I have self-published so I’m not just a writer; I’m a marketer, publisher, designer, strategist, promoter. It’s a learning curve at first, but don’t give up, there is so much information out there for authors and if you are determined you will get there.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I always knew I wanted to self-publish. I wanted control over my covers, my story lengths, my promotion and also when and how much I could publish. I wanted control over my stories and business, that’s why I decided to self-publish.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it’s ever-changing and a wonderful industry that’s only going to keep getting stronger with every successful year.
