Author Bio:
I started writing when I finally had free time after becoming an empty nester. Mystery novels have been my passion for years and I always intended to write one myself some day.
By day, I work in the information technology field at a large financial services firm. I am a graduate of the Missouri University of Science & Technology and live in the St. Louis area with my husband. Chronicle of the Mound Builders is my first novel.
What inspires you to write?
Chronicle of the Mound Builders is my first novel, written under the pen name of Elle Marie. It was inspired by the discovery of a Mound Builders village in my hometown of Chesterfield, Missouri, which added to the mystery of the ancient civilization and its disappearance. This book offers an imaginative narrative of what might have actually happened to destroy the prosperous community.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m definitely an outliner! While I enjoy the creative aspects of writing, I find it easier to have a decent outline to work from. That outline might change once I get started, but it serves to guide me page after page. I use several Word documents – one for the outline, one for character sketches, and another for notes and ideas that come to me as I’m writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I wanted to have control over the process and I wanted to get to market sooner, so I chose to self-publish. It doesn’t hurt that the royalties are a bit higher as well!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think paperbacks will always have their place but am excited to see more and more people reading ebooks. Overall it seems that people are reading more today than ever!
