About Donna E. Hart:
Donna Hart, nee Marston, a native of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts is a Shrewsbury High School graduate. She’s lived in Massachusetts for her life, but now resides in the Midwest with her husband. She has had an interest in writing since her early teenage years, and is the author of several children’s picture books, including “Sherry Strawberry’s Clubhouse”, “The Boy Who Loved the Sky”, “Terreben”, “Make Room for Maggie”, and “The Happy Butterfly”, just to name a few. She has had an interest in writing children’s picture books for quite some time now, and has more children’s picture books in the works to be published later this year and in 2016. Donna has other writing projects that she’s currently working on, such as a screenplay, two mystery novels, a book of poetry and a couple of romance novels.
What inspires you to write?
I’m inspired by all that is around me.
Tell us about your writing process.
I usually try to provide an outline when I’m beginning a novel project so that I can use it as a guide to help me through the story. Other times, I just write what comes to mind, sans the outline. As far as with my children’s picture books, there is no outline. The ideas just come to me and I write a script, sometimes all at once, and at other times I start and then finish it later on, whenever inspiration strikes for that particular project once again. It’s the same thing with my lyrics or poetry, sometimes I complete them right then and there, and at other times I just don’t.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Often times they do, and I’m willing to listen.
What advice would you give other writers?
If the writing bug whispers in your ear, listen to it. If you procrastinate, you may never start that story, finish that poem, etc.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I felt as though my stories would have a better chance to be enjoyed by children once they were published for people to rent or purchase for them to read.
I would advise new authors to explore the best ways to market their book. It is tough, but the more you get the word out about it, the better. Social media is a great start.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think that e-books will increase in popularity, but I hope that paperbacks & hardcover books will always be around for the people that don’t have computers or access to the internet.
