About Dominik M. Kirtaime:
Kirtaime grew up in the country outskirts of Bristol. After his military career he settled with his family in Germany. Wanting to write fantasy-fiction books was a childhood dream which he only decided to make come true in 2013 with his first book ‘The Perennial Migration’.
What inspires you to write?
I was inspired to write “The Perennial Migration” by a question I often asked myself: If mankind could no longer live on Earth how would we survive if there was no technology and we had to migrate to another planet?
Tell us about your writing process.
I thought about sketching first but I’m not much of an artist so I settled for thinking about one character at a time. Before I started with the storyline, I had in writing a profile of each main character apart from Demla, one of the female forest folk sentries, who came into the story later on. I did not use a whiteboard and use my little electronic network for typing. I enjoy taking the netbook and writing while travelling on the train.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
No, but while I created the profiles of each I was that character – this helped “switch” roles during writing.
What advice would you give other writers?
Important: Save your text as you go. Make a backup copy and also a copy of that backup on an external hard-drive! I had many a day where the main draft didn’t save properly for some reason. Also, but only once your story has finished, reach out to other authors on social media forums – a wealth of expert advice, professional and friendly group.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
i went self-publish using the Amazon Kindle ebook publishing facility. I will not stay with just this format. They have a facility to offer softcover format.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe regardless of formats such as ebook that the traditional industry will co-exist and more than likely get stronger.
What genres do you write?: Science-Fiction, Fantasy
What formats are your books in?: eBook
