About Denise Svajlenko:
I am a non-fiction writer whose work has appeared in newspapers and magazines including The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Durham Region This Week, Chatelaine, Real Woman, The Cottager, Family Camping, Best Years, and Florida Travel. I have recently published my first book titled Evolving: My Lessons of Self-Discovery.
What inspires you to write?
I am a voracious reader and seeker of true stories that inspire me.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I love real story tellers who write their memoirs such as Elizabeth Gilbert, Glennon Doyle, Dani Shapiro and Anne Lamott to name a few
Tell us about your writing process.
I like to complete a detailed outline first and then work on the individual paragraphs/stories. I keep an idea file that I refer to throughout my writing process.
What advice would you give other writers?
You have to be incredibly patient in all three aspects of the process: writing, publishing, and marketing your book.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I chose to self-publish because it is difficult for new authors to get publishing deals. I hope to get my second book published through a traditional publisher, as I continue to build my platform and readers find my first book.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Book sales are difficult and very competitive and I believe it will continue to be difficult for authors who aren't best sellers immediately to secure traditional publishing deal. As such, I believe we will see more interest in self-publishing
What genres do you write?: Non-fiction, Memoir, Spiritual, Personal Transformation, Self-help
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
