About Daniel Wallen:
Daniel Wallen is a health coach, yoga teacher, business graduate, and bestselling author from the beautiful mountains of Tennessee.
As a formerly clumsy guy, he came to yoga in an effort to be more coordinated (it definitely helped)… but he later discovered yoga is more than a physical exercise. It is a deep philosophy that changed his life in profound ways.
Daniel’s work has been featured on popular websites such as Lifehack, Livestrong, Pakwired, Homegrown & Healthy, Do You Yoga, and the Personal Trainer Development Center. He is the writer of “Do Yoga Every Damn Day” and “Be Your Own Guru.” Visit my website (listed below) to read bite-sized blogs for busy folks who want to be fit, fierce, and fabulous.
What inspires you to write?
Read books that make me laugh, cry, or grow as a person. There are no original ideas in the world. The secret is to connect ideas in a unique or innovative way. Also, a lot of advice books are more cluttered than necessary, so I like to compile information in a way that is easy to understand. Note: I am a bit OCD, which definitely helps in this area of life.
Tell us about your writing process.
I begin with a detailed outline, but I do not let myself become attached to it. Software is overrated. Authors have got by with pen, paper, and typewriters for thousands of years. Why make the process more complicated than it needs to be?
What advice would you give other writers?
Starting is the hardest part. Don’t let your mind psych you out. Write a hundred words every day. Do that every day and you will have a book. Ta-da! Magic.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I weigh risk and reward. I’m willing to take bold actions, but only when failure would result in severe consequences. This is why I focus on Kindle books more than print, although I am in the process of exploring CreateSpace as we speak.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Amazon is empowering authors to get their message out there. If the publishers don’t stop being so exclusive, it will be their undoing.
