About Dale J. Moore:
I have written novels across different genres, including thrillers, cozy mysteries, and middle grade fiction. My latest series is called Bubbles – about a young cancer survivor who encounters magical creatures called Bubbles. They are chapter books for middle grade readers.
The Windsor, Ontario native writes from his experiences living and working in different cities in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
What inspires you to write?
My sister Maureen inspired me to start writing. She has written novels and screen plays for years that I always enjoyed reading. Her novel Life of the Party inspired me to write a sequel, Friends of the Deceased, and publish both.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
My sister, Maureen P. Moore, obviously. I'm all over the map for reading. I stay clear of horror and adult romance. I've dipped my toes in fantasy and sci-fi (though I love sci-fi movies). I love a good detective story and have a soft spot for cozy mysteries.
Tell us about your writing process.
I usually have an outline in my head that I jot down, but the story goes where it takes me. For instance, the first Bubbles book was intended to be general fiction with a much more serious tone, but the premise worked better as a children's book.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I try to think like my characters: what they are feeling and how they would react in different situations.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write it down when its in your head. Don't try to make it perfect the first time. Get the story down and then go back and make it tight / pretty. Don't let perfection stifle you.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
My sister tried the publisher route and it left her frustrated. I have decent technical skills from my former career, and it's gotten easier to self-publish.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Publishing continues to get more complicated and crowded. Don't be afraid to enter the scrum.
What genres do you write?: Middle grade, thriller, cozy mystery
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
