About Cinda Brooks:
Cinda grew up with her identical twin, Linda, and three brothers in East Africa where their parents served as medical missionaries. Her nursing, health education, and law enforcement careers combined for a rich twenty-year career teaching fitness, wellness, defensive tactics, and survival at the Texas Game Warden Training Academy. She currently pursues her mission — to unleash the champion in people — through her volunteer work in the Discovery Program and her connections with people that cross her path.
Cinda lives near Austin, Texas, with her husband, Stanley, and Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy, Buddy. Among her interests are travel and competitive sports. She is a gold medalist in the World Police and Fire Games in biathlon (running and pistol shooting), rowing, cross country, and cycling.
What inspires you to write?
I believe that story is very powerful-it crosses barriers of culture, age, religion, and politics. The story of my life, like anyone else if they will tell it, has can make a difference in other's life. They pull out of my story what they need for their journey.
Tell us about your writing process.
A "Seat of my Pants" best describes my writing style. I have studied how to do it orderly and planned but I do my best writing but just writing. I find I am most creative if I have a glass of red and write in the evenings then fix it in the morning.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
What advice would you give other writers?
Just write! Don't let your inner critic, or fear of the unknown steps ahead, hold you back. There will be people along the way that are happy to help show you the way. Your story matters!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I studied the options, asked everyone that knew anything about publishing, and took an online course to help me. I found that a writing community that shared ideas was a great help. I found a publisher, Ant Press, that specializes in memoirs. They helped me edit, design a cover, publish, and promote.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think we will be using the internet more and more to publish, read, and sell books.
