About Christy Nicholas:
I am a recent author, but my interest in Ireland and historical fiction/fantasy is a life-long one. I live in upstate New York with my husband, dog, cats and sugar gliders. I’m an accountant who also writes, makes beaded jewelry and takes photographs.
What inspires you to write?
I love the mystery of the Otherworld. Fairies, religion, goddesses, whatever it may be, it intrigues me and I want to share that mystery with others.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a very organized writer. I use the Snowflake method to plan out my plots, characters, and scene list. Then I shake it up a lot while I’m actually writing.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I have an ongoing movie inside my mind as I’m writing. Often it goes too fast for me to type the scene, but I eventually catch up. Sometimes my characters defy me and do what I hadn’t plan, so I need to adjust the story for them.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write. Every. Day. Keep doing it, even if it’s crap. Also, learn about marketing, promotion, and get professional help with editing and book covers. And everyone hates their first draft!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was quite lucky – I actually had become friends with someone who ran a small-press publishing company before I started writing. When I had something that might be publishable, she helped me along and held my hand through the process.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it will become more about ebooks, but I don’t think print books will ever die. There is something intensely satisfying about holding a print book in your hand.
