About Charlotte Rijkenberg:
Charlotte Rijkenberg first moved abroad with her husband over a decade ago. Since then, they have traveled, worked, and lived across the world.
Convinced of the incredible life lessons moving abroad brings, Charlotte is now on a mission to inspire people around the world to move abroad and live their best lives.
When she isn’t planning a move, chasing a dream (like writing a book), or coming up with creative business ideas, you can find Charlotte singing Disney songs with her kids or watching an acclaimed HBO series.
What inspires you to write?
My biggest drivers to write are my curiosity and drive to help people.
My book, Let's Move Abroad, has been created with the passion to give people the confidence and tools to follow their dreams and move abroad.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I love classic novelists like Jane Austen and Daphne du Maurier, and I can't put down the books by Liane Moriarty.
Tell us about your writing process.
When I started writing, I started with a strict writing schedule, but it didn't work for me at all!
Some days I can write a whole chapter, and other days I can't type a single word. When I'm not inspired to write, I research a certain topic or just review previously written chapters.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
n/a
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep writing.
It is easy to get stuck in your head and doubt yourself. In the end you can write a sentence in a hundred different ways, just do it your way!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish my book because I felt confident with the marketing aspect of the book promotion. It is a lot of work, and I advise new authors not to underestimate this part, it takes a lot of time and effort to promote a book!
Having said that, websites like Amazon make it very easy to self-publish and self-promote and ultimately I chose to self-publish because it gave me 100% control.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I'm very excited about the growing number of self-published authors, and I think with the impact of social media, the self-published market can become really big!
What genres do you write?: Travel, Emigration & Immigration, self-help
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
