Author Bio:
Charlayne Crawford (1969- ) was born in Buffalo, NY and currently lives in Asheville, NC though she calls Bradford, PA home.
She enjoys a variety of topics in life, and enjoy writing pieces (books, blog posts etc.) of things that are centered around her faith.
The topics of faith fall into Judaism overall, though mainly mystical thinking, and thinking outside of the proverbial box so to speak.
She has a few books that will dazzle the imagination of faith, heaven, G-d, and mystical practices. Contemplating life, what it means, how things come together and how it plays out.
Her writings are probably best described as holy yet magical books. Using old Jewish mystical practices and Jewish magic. Talks with angels and touring the heavens, hints of arcane knowledge are just a hint of what fascinates her.
What inspires you to write?
Life, G-d, Judaism, Dreams, Nature, Personal Experiences
Tell us about your writing process.
I tried writing by outline and then trashed my book a few times to rewrite it over and over again. What I have found is writing on the fly seems to work well for me. My inspiration seems to spring forth. There were times when I came up with an idea and went to type and it seemed as though fire was coming from my fingertips!
I never know how my book will end, or what comes next- I just type and things come to me! Soemtimes different story lines come and I have to make a seperate book for it. This is how I have a tetralogy already planned out!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I imagine my character talking in general and how it should sound. I will sometimes catch myself talking to no one as if I am the character. I think at the end of the day – I am the character. I am Anna.
What advice would you give other writers?
Just have fun. I think when you write and enjoy it, it is your true inspiration, and that will rub off better on others and inspire them. That is what reading is all about is opening up the mind and watch a reader evolve through the books they read. Even if you cant see all of your readers, you can see those around you and how they enjoy your work.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
The first book of my tetralogy was the one that took a long time. It started out as something else, then it evolved to what it is now. When I got rid of my attitude and my wanting to write a burn book and decided to just write, then it became fun. Taking life experiences and turning them into a masterpiece for literary value, I in turn found more value in myself. Then I became more excited about my work and wanted to share it with the world via publishing. It was at the same time the fire was coming from my fingertips while typing!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I don’t know, but it is exciting and I am glad to be an author. It was originally just a thing on my bucket list, and now that is all I want to do. And by the way- I don’t know that I fit into a typical ‘writer’ definition. I just love to put my thoughts and dreams and imagination into written format. So if you read my books and say “she isn’t a true or good writer…” well, maybe your right. Just enjoy the content- and if you do- then I did all I set out to do!
