About Cecilia London:
Cecilia London is my pen name. I am a native Midwesterner who never thought I’d end up in Texas and yet here I am, determined to help Keep San Antonio Lame. I have been known to dabble in the practice of law. I can apply Simpsons quotes to everyday life, and I live for baseball season.Ā I’ve been writing off and on since I was a kid, but never really thought Iād have any idea that could turn into a single novel, let alone a series. There aren’t many books about how dystopias/totalitarian political regimes come into existence, and I wanted to touch upon that topic while still maintaining a primary focus on the epic romance. Dissident is my first published novel.
What inspires you to write?
The voices in my head. š
Tell us about your writing process.
I am not a fluid writer. I write what comes to me, which usually means things are terribly out of order. I edit the hell out of things. I find it helps to write later parts of books/sagas when they come to you, because then you know the adjustments to make in the earlier books. It’s not the most organized or orderly process, but it works for me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely! I write dialogue first, then go back and fill in the blanks. I have a lot of conversations in my head, and repeat them afterward when they’re put to paper.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t ever preclude anything. I spent years writing, mostly as a young adult and in college, and never, ever thought I’d be in a position to publish my own work. Not because I wasn’t good enough, but because I never thought I’d have a full novel, let alone a six book series.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Explore everything! Some people are determined to get a traditional contract, and that’s great. I wanted the flexibility of self-publishing, mostly because while I am on hiatus from my legal career, I needed to know that I wouldn’t be boxed into anything should I choose to return to it.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
More and more folks will continue to self-publish, and it’s up to us to find the diamonds in the rough.
