What inspires you to write?
I love to cook and love to develop new recipes.
I have always loved to cook for family and friends and they convinced me to share my recipes. After writing the first book I have just kept going.
I really enjoy the feedback that I get and the fact that stranger enjoy my recipes, it gives me encouragement to continue.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write a basic outline of the types of recipes I want to have in the book.
Then format the recipes so that they will be easy to follow and check to make sure that the ingredients are fairly easy to find in other locals. While writing the recipes I jot down any hint or tips that I have pertaining to the recipes.
I remake each recipe at least twice following my written instructions, because I have a tendency to add things with out even realizing it. I also ask a friend to make the recipe following my instructions.
I take pictures of the finished recipes. This is an area that I am not very good at but I think I am getting better.
After I have all the recipes completed I do all the conversions for metric and double check all my nutritional information.
For me all of the above things are the fun part, then I need to do the things I don’t enjoy as much.
Doing the introduction and why read this book is becoming easier but I still struggle with it. I have been told the more I do it the easier it will be. I try and do it as if I am talking to someone, telling them what they will find in the book and information that will help them (like the hints and tips I wrote notes about earlier)
For me the hardest part is coming up with a title and writing the description for the book and I definitely procrastinate when it comes to doing it. (If it was just doing the recipes I would have a lot more books.)
What advice would you give other writers?
If you enjoy a hobby or interest and think others would too give it a try.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Family and friends convinced me I should give it a try and it is their support and encouragement that keeps me doing more.
I have a friend who was publishing books on KDP and she has been a very big part of what I have been doing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think that Amazon definitely makes it easier to publish books, if I had to find another way to publish I probably would not be doing it.
Because of the ease of publishing on Amazon, I think there are a lot of books being published that shouldn’t be especially in non fiction. There are many books that contain very little information, are poorly written and in some I have read that have a lot of words but make no sense and don’t really say anything.
I have lots of ideas for more books, but until I have the time to produce books I am proud of they will just be ideas but |I do have a couple that just need the finishing touches.
