Author Bio:
Brianna Hughes is one of five children born in San Jose, California. She grew up as a navy brat moving from one place to another. She has always loved life and loving in the moment. No one knew she would grow up to have such a romantic heart, from the bookworm she was known as a child. She is currently a stay at home mom living with her family in North Carolina. Brianna would have not gotten to where she is today without the guidance to hone in on her talent that the Lord God graced her with and her husband Chris and two sons. She loves to write romance almost as much as she loves to read it. Her heroines are always strong women that can stand up for themselves.
Her favorite genre to write is paranormal romance. From Immortal highlanders, witches, vampires to Warlocks, her work is inspired by her interest into role- playing and daydreams. But, Brianna has recently found that she is broadening her genres with each book she writes. Now she is exploring, Contemporary, Fantasy, Historical and Western Romance, as well as Erotica. She has also been thinking of doing a few YA books too.
In 2012, she published her first paranormal romance novella for her Wicked Blood Series, entitled “Blood Ties” with much success she has a total of 4 books slated for this series. Brianna continues to create such well-rounded characters with each book that unfolds from her mind. She currently has many projects on the slab with several co-authors.
In December of 2013, she published a short erotic story, entitled “Twas the Naughty Night before Christmas” part of her Pure Wicked Seduction Erotica Series; within this series she will unfold the sheets of wicked stories of a multitude of short stories, novellas and novels. Wicked is what wicked does. There is a difference in Brianna’s mind between “wicked” and “evil.” Evil, in her definition, is nothing good. It is villainy, crime, murder, intentional wrongness; whereas “wicked” is something more…playful. Wicked is a flirtation with the dark side, playing with emotions – like fear or submission – that she’s been told are negative, or experimenting with pain or even excesses of pleasure she’s been told she ought not to enjoy. But Brianna does enjoy them, and the characters in the stories presented here are definitely enjoying themselves.
Coming in 2014- 2015 , Brianna will be releasing many projects, such as short stories and a re-release of her first book in her Wicked Blood Series. To see more of Brianna’s work you can check out her Website, Facebook Pages and twitter.
What inspires you to write?
Many things inspire me to write, music, emotions of the moment and of course the oh so many voices in my head. Some are whispers for now, but will eventually become a drill sergeant wanting to be heard. With my poetry it is full of emotion from the depths of my heart and soul.
Tell us about your writing process.
I consider myself a storyboard writer. I use the program Writeway Pro to do my book writing. All the stages, note taking, research, character development, down to the manuscript itself. I also sometimes when I am traveling and an idea hits me dictate notes on my smartphone and then put them in my writing program.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
It is hard not to listen and not to reply to my characters. Depending on the character and how loud they are, will depend if I take their number first and proceed with his/her story. I have many times, had to do a spreadsheet with all the voices that are talking together or fighting to see who is the loudest.
What advice would you give other writers?
Life is filled with Dreams, Dreams which give our life meaning and inspire us to change. Writing can be that dream, so think of dream of finishing that paragraph, or that chapter or most of all pick up a piece of paper and just write. The words will flow from the ends of the pen all you have to do is believe in yourself.
Between yourself and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Remember your decision to be, having and do something out of the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Writing is no different nor becoming an author sometimes is your greatest asset simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else.
We dream about change and improvement, we set goals, seemingly impossible goals, goals which challenge us, and we dream about the future, when we will reach our goals, when our lives will change for the better. Why not let dream be of writing and reaching the finish line of that dream making it come true. Never give up!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I have tried both sub-publishing and Publishing house. When I did self-publishing, I had to hire an editor, cover artist on my own. Do what is best for you and you’re manuscript.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I am hoping that print will always be around, for I am a reader as well as a writer. I do still like to have the BOOK IN MY HANDS and not always on my Nook. I like the smell of the print books. I know when I saw my first book in Print it was a feeling that brought tears to my eyes. It was seeing that my dream had become a reality.
