What inspires you to write?
I have been writing ever since I was in high school. Why? I don't know. I just know that I love to write. In fact, I tried to write a modern novel that was amateurish, to say the least. The characters were not well developed and the plot was weak. When I was in college, I enrolled in more than one creative writing course. Each required students to write at least two or three short stories throughout the semester. When each story was turned in, copies were made and given to students to read and discuss. I believe the requirements and feedback from others helped immensely.
What authors do you read when you aren’t writing?
I like the old writers such as Ernest Hemingway, John O'Hara, John D. MacDonald, Irving Wallace, Harold Robbins, Ira Levin, Donald Hamilton, Erle Stanley Gardner, and several others. I also like John Grisham and Linwood Barclay from time to time.
Tell us about your writing process.
I try to write or edit something I have written almost every day. I do not necessarily work from an outline, although I have used a few over the years. Sometimes I have to write down characters' names and something about them before I include them in a piece of writing. This helps whenever a character is complex or has a specific characteristic or even tick.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I try to get to know my characters well. This means, I try to get inside their heads in order to know what they will say or do, depending on the situation or circumstances.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don't give up–that is, if you wish to see your writing in print. Keep writing and sending it out to publishers.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I try to use reputable publishers that have been around a few or more years. Today, a writer has to be careful. There are numerous publishers that promise this and that and don't or can't deliver.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Although books sold well during the pandemic, publishers have seen a decline during the past year. Of course, there are more and more publishers publishing more and more books. Readers can't afford to buy every book they'd like to read. However, because there are so many publishers, writers should have a good chance of seeing their work in print or other.
What genres do you write?: Mystery, Thriller, Legal thriller, Suspence, Espionage.
What formats are your books in?: Both eBook and Print
