Ashley Moss was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. She is the middle child of three children born to her mother, and she dearly loves her family. Ashley's love of reading began when she learned to read at the age of four. From that point on, books and words were her friends. Her passion for writing developed when she wrote her very first poem at the age of twelve. Writing is her solace and comfort in life. Today, her love of reading and writing continues to uplift her in life.
What inspires you to write?
My feelings, thoughts, current events, other writers' material, and inspiration from God.
Tell us about your writing process.
If I'm not inspired to write on a particular subject or topic, I usually brainstorm story or poem ideas that are relevant to today's society and conveys a message that I want to send to readers first. Then, I choose one of those ideas, and begin to write what I feel and know regarding poetry. After the initial brainstorming phase regarding short stories, I create characters, the worlds they live in, their circumstances, and so forth.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I often listen to the feelings and messages my characters want to convey to readers, but I don't talk to my characters.
What advice would you give other writers?
To have fun as they write, and to be original, creative, and authentic in their writing.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I researched all the ways to publish books and decided to self-publish and seek out small press companies to publish my work with, because I want to have all control over my work.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It has potential to get better for indie authors who are trying to go mainstream, but now I think that book publishers focus mainly on mainstream authors instead of promoting and representing more indie authors. That is a mistake.
What genres do you write?: poetry, fantasy, Christian fiction, etc.
What formats are your books in?: Print
