AR DeClerck is a mother, wife and full time dialysis technician in the Quad Cities, IL. She loves writing, reading, music and movies. She writes adventure romance in many genres like steampunk, scifi and mythical. There is no adventure more grand than falling in love!
What inspires you to write?
Music, movies, birds on a windowsill, conversations between people at the bank… I can find inspiration in anything, really.
Tell us about your writing process.
Im a full seat of the pantser. I never plot or write outlines. I sit at the computer and write page one through to THE END and do not skip around.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Characters are everything. The center of my writing universe. Of course I talk to them in my head (out loud would be crazy!) I think the most important part of writing a good character is understanding emotional motivation for our actions and putting that on paper for the reader.
What advice would you give other writers?
Writing is a long game. There is always more to learn. If you love it you will never quit no matter how discouraged you get. If every book was a hole in one we’d all be Tiger Woods!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I chose small press because I’m too busy to spend time with formatting etc that goes into self publishing. I didn’t want to wait 18 months for rejection letters from the Big 5 and I wanted to focus on the writing with what little time I have free.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I hope that the publishing industry slows down and authors take more time to polish their craft and hone their skills so that readers get the quality they deserve
