What inspires you to write?
I have so many stories in my head, I almost don’t have a choice. They have to get out somehow!
Tell us about your writing process.
I always outline my books on Microsoft Word first. I’ll usually start with a page or two that sums up the whole story, then I break it into pieces and write a few sentences for each chapter.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
It’s more like I spy on them and watch their interactions with each other. So many stories play through my head that way, most of which never get written, but it helps me develop their personalities and flesh them out better in the ones I do write.
What advice would you give other writers?
Write at least a little every day, even when you don’t feel like it. Don’t wait for inspiration. Even if what you write turns out to be terrible, improving it will give you somewhere to start the next day.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After a fruitless quest for traditional publication, I learned about eBook self-publishing in a conference and decided to go for it. That eventually led to self-publishing my books in paperback too.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think more and more people will be reading eBooks, but I don’t believe paperbacks will ever become completely obsolete. Authors are wise to pursue both avenues.
