About Anne Lange:
Shoes are my addiction, but books are my passion. I grew up with a love for reading. I read constantly. Probably too much some days. I read many genres of romance, but prefer to write sexy stories. I try to add some humor, and certainly my stories come with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about. Oh, and always a happily ever after.
I juggle a full time job and a family. Not always successfully. Clean house? Who needs one? And what’s wrong with cereal for dinner? I live in Ontario, Canada with my wonderfully supportive husband, three awesome kids who are growing up way too fast, and Rocky the bearded dragon.
Plenty of ideas are rolling around in my head all the time. So I can’t wait to write that next story.
What inspires you to write?
Reading! Books are my passion. I’ve been reading since I can remember. From the Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew to Anne of Green Gables and Danielle Steele. I did my stint with horror and crime and finally discovered my mom’s stash of Harlequins. Reading is my escape, it’s how I decompress. Sometimes, I will admit, I get so engrossed in the story, I forget about everything else around me. I just love stepping into the shoes of the heroine I’m spending my time with, and dream about getting lucky with the sexy hero! I mean, who wouldn’t?
But I have to say, I never ever considered that I’d one day become an author myself!
I read most genres of fiction, my favorite being romantic suspense. I prefer to write sexy stories, often with a dash of humor, and usually with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about. And always – always – with a happily ever after!
Tell us about your writing process.
I write stories as they come to me. I have a general idea of the story, and I know a bit about the main characters, but it really develops as I write. That said, I’ve been asked to prepare a synopsis for stories I haven’t yet created, so I’m forced to do some plotting. But I will keep it very high level, touch on the conflict and goal, but not go into depth on the details, because I just don’t know them yet. And in the end, I might (probably) will change my mind to some degree.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
When I first started writing, I signed with a publisher, because I didn’t know what else to do! Now I’m published with Etopia Press, Totally Bound Publishing, hotRom publishing, Secret Hungers, and Sexy Scribblers! Whew!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think for most genres, the main advantage in the future of book publishing is the flexibility of choice on how you become published. You can decide to go large or small press, or self-publish. You don’t necessarily need an agent. You can be a hybrid. Essentially, you can do what works best for you. This is still relatively new, and I think self-publishing is only going to grow more and more popular as time goes on!
One of the challenges that is becoming more and more prominent is the speed of delivery required. With everything else transitioning to instant digital results, readers expect the next book immediately. As an author, especially if writing is not your full time job, this is very difficult to accomplish, especially if you write longer novels. It’s just not possible.
For erotic romance itself, one of the newer challenges we face is the limitations that have been put on our covers by some distributors. It’s becoming extremely restrictive which makes it difficult to create a cover that portrays the essence of the book. I’m all for no nudity, I don’t think that’s necessary. But I do think everything else can be accomplished quite tastefully. I’m a reader as well, and I want to see covers the represent the story being told.
