Andrea Buginsky is a freelance writer and author. “The Chosen,” a middle-grade fantasy novelette, was her first book, followed by “My Open Heart,” an autobiography about growing up with heart disease. What inspires you to write?
Everything: Shows and movies I watch, life events, stories I read.
Tell us about your writing process.
I don’t really have a “process.” When I’m ready to write, I like to listen to music in the background. I read what I’ve written and catch up to where I am, check my outline, make some notes if I need to, then plunge away until I come to a good place to leave for the next session. I make a few notes on my outline about where I’m headed so I’ll know for my next writing session.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
When they talk to me, I definitely listen. I’ll respond if I think they have a good idea, or to argue if I’m unsure of their ideas.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep working. Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. Reach for the stars, and make your dreams come true.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I started with a small Indie publisher, then decided I would prefer to do the publishing myself. So I switched to self-publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think with the way technology is going, ebooks and ereaders are going to become the mainstay of reading.
