What inspires you to write?
I love words and language. I also enjoy the way that literature reflects aspects of life and allows me to experience lives other than my own.
Tell us about your writing process.
I don’t write linearly. I know where things begin and end, but I don’t start at the beginning and write until the end – I fill in gaps to create the general outline before I actually sit down to write. I don’t always know every little detail, but I do always have a general road map so I know where I’m headed.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I live with my characters. I have a pet gargoyle who is a character in one of my books.
What advice would you give other writers?
Keep writing. Never stop. Write for yourself and find an audience who values the same things that you value. These will be your most loyal fans.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I think that self publishing will become more important as larger publishing houses look for authors who can prove themselves on their own before the publisher will take a risk on their work.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
Readers will always want books. It’s a good future.
