About Alexa Night:
Alexa Night is the alter-ego of a married twenty something fantasy/romance author. She wanted to keep the writings separate and not have awkward family dinners so Alexa was created.
What inspires you to write?
There are many things and people that inspire me. I love reading other authors stories about how they were found or how they labored with their stories until they found their agents. I love the underdog story. It gives me hope that I could be successful.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a pantser. I’ve never been very good with outlines or sketching my characters. I like to free write. I let my stories take shape in my mind and then I’ll just take fingers to keyboard and let it flow. It works well for me and I like having the freedom of allowing my story to form itself and letting my characters do whatever they want. They don’t have a little box to stay in. They have free reign to do whatever they want. There have been many stories where I’ve been left surprised.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters surprise me all the time. I’ll sit there asking what they’re doing all the time. Sometimes it makes no sense to me at the time but in the end they know best.
What advice would you give other writers?
Don’t stop writing. Don’t doubt yourself. And listen to your editors!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I opted for a publisher because I’m a writer. Not a business person. I don’t wan’t to have to exclusively deal with everything. I enjoy promoting my work, but I’m an author. My first love is creating worlds and people. That’s what I do. Everything else is up to my publisher. I don’t want to do the formatting. Or any of the major stuff. I just want to write.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think….it will evolve as all things do. I’m ready for it. I will adapt as all must do. I hope paper books don’t go completely extinct thought. I do enjoy the feel and smell of paper. There is nothing better than the feeling of a good, ol’ book in your hand.
