About Alan Joshua:
I am an author, clinical psychologist, and parapsychologist. My background includes Fine Arts, Biology, and Psychology, I’ve worked with people having so-called paranormal abilities, only to discover that the gifts are an extension of normal consciousness.(see http://alanjoshua.com) and an offspring of shamanism.
I have worked with Stanley Krippner, one of the world’s leading parapsychologists. He endorses The SHIVA Syndrome: “In The SHIVA Syndrome, the author (a clinical psychologist) skillfully and ingeniously interweaves altered states of consciousness and parapsychology with genetics, paleontology, mythology, and religion to produce a frightening, brisk, and film-worthy story building to an intense climax. The story challenges conventional notions of reality, ultimately concluding that human consciousness extends well beyond the flesh–and offers enormous potential for both creation and destruction.”
SHIVA is a multigenre thriller that has appealed to sci-fi fans, mystery readers (see reviews on Amazon and Goodreads).
What inspires you to write?
A strong desire to explore the realities beyond our senses and share them. I also have a passion to dig deeply into life’s mysteries and go beyond the cultural blinders that narrow our vision. Over years, I have written non-fiction, but want to make this knowledge more accessible and chose to embed fact in fiction.
Tell us about your writing process.
With my art background, I depend on inspiration to start the process. A “what if…?” occurs that draws me in and sets the creative process in motion.I’m not drawn to fantasy; I prefer to take what is “real” and extend it into what could be.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely. More accurately, they talk to me, even directing the story. Where I’m led can even surprise me.
What advice would you give other writers?
See my website for the page on writing and creativity.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After much frustration with agents and publishers, one company saw the potential in SHIVA. I never reached the point of seriously considering self-publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
As a sci-fi fan, I see the continued decrease i paper books and rise of e-formats. But beyond that, I envision holo-novels, immersion in virtual reality as a means of storytelling.
