About Adrienne Thompson:
Married at sixteen, a mother twice by seventeen, and thrice a mother and divorced by twenty-four, Adrienne Thompson is no stranger to adversity. Not your typical teenage mother, she went on to complete her college degree and to earn her nursing license. She attributes God’s faithfulness as the catalyst for her success in life. Now, having raised two children as a divorced mother, with a third fast-approaching adulthood, she is sharing a long hidden talent and passion with the world. Using the lessons that life has so expertly taught her as a guideline (betrayal, abusive relationships, self-esteem issues, witnessing the deteriorating effects of drug abuse), she has created stories that will both entertain and inspire the reader.
Adrienne currently resides in Arkansas with her daughter. Formerly an RN, she now writes and publishes her stories full time. She is also a motivational speaker.
What inspires you to write?
Life inspires me to write–my own life and the lives of those around me. I’m an avid observer and people watcher. I’m also somewhat of an empath, and I often find myself offering impromptu advice and counsel to complete strangers! For some reason, people just love to tell me their life’s story and I often draw inspiration from them as well.
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a pantser all the way. My stories come to me in different ways–dreams, a single line or phrase. Sometimes I’ll write a very short plot summary and jot down some character names just so I don’t forget them, but for the most part, I just sit down and write and let the story speak to me.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
My characters are VERY talkative and demanding and just plain rude! Lol. And of course I listen to them! They run the show and pay the bills! I don’t do much talking back, though. They usually know what they’re talking about.
What advice would you give other writers?
Trust your own voice and value your individuality and uniqueness as a writer, but above all, trust the story and follow the characters!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to publish my first book after sharing excerpts from it on my blog and receiving some great feedback. I chose self-publishing because I’m a control freak, to put it quite simply. I wasn’t and am still not willing to give up control of my babies. Oh, and the monthly deposits into my bank account are definitely a plus!
My advise to new authors is to thoroughly research your options and do what works best for you.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it will continue to evolve and grow, hopefully for the benefit of both readers and authors. One thing’s for sure, as long as I’m breathing, I’ll be writing–no matter what!
