A.M. Madden has achieved Amazon Best Selling status with her debut in contemporary romance, The Back-Up Series.
A.M. Madden is a wife, a mother, an avid reader of romance novels and now an author. In Back-up she aspired to create a fun, sexy, realistic romantic story. She wanted to create characters that the reader could relate to and feel as if they knew personally.
A self proclaimed hopeless romantic, she loves getting lost in a good book. Using every free moment of her time while raising teen-age boys, A.M. Madden plans to continue writing, as it now become a second career.
What inspires you to write?
I am a romance junkie. I love reading romance and decided to try and write it as well. That decision has been the best one I’ve made to date.
Tell us about your writing process.
I start with a very rough outline (emphasis on rough). My outline changes constantly throughout. The first thing I do after establishing a beginning, middle, and end is create my characters. I only write characters that the readers can connect with. Most importantly people I would want to hang out with myself if they were real. The biggest compliment I receive from readers are they wished my characters were real.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Absolutely. They are constantly talking to me, most of the time in the middle of the night. I keep a notebook by my bed because so many times I’ve forgotten what they said.
What advice would you give other writers?
Stay true to your storyline, characters, and plot. You can’t please everyone, and my only goal is to entertain a reader for a few days and hope they enjoyed my book enough to come back and read more.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
When I wrote my first book Back-Up, I intended my mom and sister to read it. When I suddenly was laid off from my day job after 24 years of service, my little project became so much more. I spent days researching self publishing and decided on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I then added Smashwords as well, adding other markets such as iBooks, Kobo, Sony Reader and Google.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It’s definitely changing. In the eighteen months since I started my new career, I can see so much change in the self-publishing field. It’s given people like me such an awesome opportunity to get their work noticed.

What genres do you write?: Romance first and foremost. Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense, and my new release in July will be Sports Romance
