About A K Michaels:
New York Times Bestselling Author, A K Michaels, Ava, was born in Scotland quite a number of years ago. She was married at a young age, and is mother to three much loved children. After the birth of her last child she went back to higher education to study, before gaining employment within the banking industry. She worked in that role for a number of years before leaving; both the job and the country.
She lived abroad for a few years before returning to Scotland and finally taking up her dream – writing.
She is the author of the Highland Wolf Clan series of books and several other series, Guild of Dragon Warriors, The Witch, The Wolf and the Vampire, Supernatural Enforcement Bureau, Defender’s Blood, Sabrina’s Vampire, The Black Rose Chronicles, together with Lori’s Wolf Pack. Her books fall into the Paranormal/Urban Fantasy genre, with The Black Rose Chronicles being Dystopian with Paranormal beings in abundance. She loves writing those particular kinds of stories where she can let her imagination run wild.
She now spends her time reading – everything from Sci Fi to Crime, Erotica to Fantasy, Thrillers to Paranormal Romance. She loves spending time with her family and, of course, writing. She also loves chocolate, her German Shepherd, Luna, and Rose Wine!
She has twitter, website and a Facebook page where she loves chatting to folks
What inspires you to write?
My head is always full of stories so I never get the chance to ‘take a break’ from writing. A small thing, like a name, can force a new character into my brain and things take off from there. My love of words and storytelling is what drives me to write.
Tell us about your writing process.
I never outline any of my stories. They start off with one character, sometimes one that has a small part in another book, and then they grow and grow until I have to write their story.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Some of the characters scream in my head if I’m not listening to them, or giving them the attention they obviously think they deserve. Usually this is when I’m writing another story and I have to tell them to ‘shut the heck up’ so I can finish what I’m working on.
What advice would you give other writers?
Enjoy what you do. I love writing and if it ever became a ‘chore’ for me then I’d definitely rethink things. At the moment I am in seventh heaven doing what I love.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I’m OCD, with anxiety issues, so self-publishing was the only route open to me. I hate handing over control of things to anyone so the thought of a publisher telling me what to write, when to publish, having influence on my covers etc, was definitely not something I’d have been able to do easily. I have a fabulous team in place now, beta readers, editor, cover designers and proofer.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I have a feeling that some of the other retailers might invest in their business to, possibly, rival the ‘biggie’ – Amazon. There are already inroads being made by other providers and there may even come a time when Facebook gets in on the act!
